All she ever wanted was to be happy. And she was. Tabitha had so much to look forward to as she counted the days and then hours, until the birth of her second baby.

Those first blissful days were soon forgotten though as they were slowly but surely replaced by pain, trauma and heartache. All because of mistakes made in the delivery room, mistakes that could have cost her, her life. As the full extent of those medical mistakes starts to become apparent Tabitha must make some life altering and devastating decisions. Her journey back from a dark place would take every ounce of fight that she had. Her job was on the line, her mother’s health was flailing and her children needed her, despite her fears to the contrary. Could she fix what was broken inside and be happy once more?

Tamara Chavalle lives in Sydney, Australia. In her debut novel she takes you into the world of birth injury and trauma that affects one in three Australian Mothers and birthing parents.

When Tamara isn’t writing, she can be found spending time with her family and friends. Often with a glass of moscato in hand and almost always sporting a pair of rhinestone encrusted cowboy boots. Travelling is one of her favourite pastimes, whether it be to the Gold Coast or the Golden state. Her favourite place on this earth though will always be on a picnic blanket, with her arms around her babies.

    I loved this book.
Right from start, I was drawn into Tabitha’s world.
The story rips along at a fast pace, and Tamara’s style is totally accessible and very easy to read.
While some of the subject matter is a bit confronting, it’s really important to have this story in the public domain.
Would recommend this book to anyone, male or female, interested in women’s health and the issues around pregnancy, birth, birth trauma and raising children.
Which is (or should be) pretty much everyone.

What a read! I got through it within a day as I couldn’t put it down. It is written in an accessible style and the story is compelling on many levels. Such an important story to get into the world, people don’t talk enough about birth trauma. I can’t wait to read the sequel.

“But Baby, You’re Worth It” is a powerful and deeply moving account of birth trauma. Reading this book made me reflect on my own experiences with gratitude, while also opening my eyes to the immense challenges that others face. I originally picked it up to better understand what a friend of mine had endured after going through something similar. By the end, I was left in awe of her strength and resilience, realising just how much she had overcome.

Tabitha’s journey is a testament to human courage, and her honesty in sharing her struggles makes this book an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to support loved ones facing similar challenges. It’s a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion and understanding. Highly recommended.
