Mary Clancy was born and educated in Mackay Queensland, Australia. She did her General Nurse training there, and spent 10 months in Mt. Isa Queensland, Australia. This was followed by a stint in the Australian Army for 3 years. After that, she worked in Hospitals in New South Wales for 2 – 3 years.
Mary moved to Melbourne Victoria, and took up studies in Midwifery and Gynaecology, graduating as a D.C. in 1968. Following a few months of post graduate experience at the Women’s Hospital, Mary transferred to Clermont Queensland for a year. From there Mary went back to her hometown of Mackay, and worked in a private Hospital for 3 years. But her restless spirit led to an interest in undeveloped Countries. This resulted in her undertaking a 2 year Health Department Contract in Papua New Guinea in 1972.
There, in Papua New Guinea, Mary was to learn about cultures, traditions and a totally different environment from the one to which she was accustomed.
