Description

Discover how to change your life with The Good NO.

The Good NO is for anyone who finds it hard to say NO to the requests, demands and expectations of others.

This book invites the reader into the world of NO and on a journey of how and why saying NO is a good idea.

It questions the culture of ‘yes saying,’ inviting you to explore and experiment with alternate ways of interpreting and responding to tricky situations. It is about discerning what is the best choice for you rather than reacting automatically. The author’s style varies from informative and easy-going to ironic and thought provoking. There are many reasons why saying NO and backing up that NO are difficult: you may be easily led, don’t want to make a fuss, think saying NO is rude, are afraid of the reaction of others, lack the courage to say NO or you may have a habit you can’t say NO to. The cost of not saying NO is high; it creates stress and misery, it undermines relationships and leaves you feeling inauthentic.

If you recognise yourself here then this book is for you.

Conversational in its style, Dr.Belinda Mackie makes the all too difficult subject of how to say NO, easy and digestible. A must-read – this is a delightful book for anyone concerned about the preservation of their mental health and sanity. For anyone who is a people pleaser. For anyone who wants to be liked. For anyone who wants to acquire that tactful art of saying NO, without saying the word NO.

At times I felt I was sitting with her talking about the subject of the importance of setting boundaries and saying NO. Other times, she uses anecdotes, quotes, and lyrics in support of her claims and provides practical ways to build healthy boundaries, all with the understanding of supporting sound mental health.

I loved this insightful book regarding the perplexing questions we all have about our behaviour. Full of wisdom, conversational in style its easy to read. Dr Belinda Mackie’s 20 years of psychoanalytic experience has resulted in a tightly woven, straight to the point book. A must read. I felt the printing quality, design and the choice of fonts to be disappointing and not at all matching with the high quality of the content.
